Odisha doctor succumbs to COVID; Wife dies in 24 hours

Berhampur: The second wave of COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep through the country with severity leading to tragedy and human crisis in every corner of the nation including Odisha.

Tragedy struck Soroda area in Ganjam district where a woman died 24 hours after death of her husband, who was a doctor, due to COVID-19.

According to reports, Dr. Pitambar Khadanga (79) passed away at the AIIMS Bhubaneswar due to COVID-19 on Wednesday. His wife Ranjukta Khadanga was also undergoing treatment at the premier medical institution.

Source said that her COVID test report had come negative. Mourning the death of her spouse, she entered into deep trauma following which her health condition deteriorated. She died under treatment on Thursday within 24 hours of her husband’s demise. The funeral pyre of the couple was held in Bhubaneswar.

The couple is survived by two sons and a daughter. Dr. Pitamber Khadanga was running a nursing home at his native place Soroda. He had been into the profession in past 35 years by offering services to patients from Ganjam, Kandhamal and Gajapati districts.

Besides, he was also associated with the Lions Club to serve people in the society. The sudden demise of doctor and his wife has shattered their near and dear and patients as well.
