Odisha: Dreaded criminal nabbed after encounter in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police today nabbed a dreaded criminal following an encounter on Baramunda High School Ground here in wee hours today.

However, two police personnel including an ASI were injured in the encounter that took place at around 2 am.

Acting on a tip-off on assemble of six to seven criminals, a team of Khandagiri police along with a special squad swung into action and arrived at Baramunda High School Ground to nab them. Seeing the cops, dreaded criminal Chakara Barik and his associates opened fire and hurled a hand bomb at them in a bid to evade. In retaliation, the police personnel opened fire at the culprits.

Chakara, who sustained injuries in his right leg in the firing, was nabbed and later admitted to Capital Hospital for treatment. However, his associates managed to flee the spot on motorcycles.

“An ASI and a SI have been injured in the encounter. We have seized bombs, a gun and a car from the spot,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh, who also visited the spot to take stock.
