Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police today arrested dreaded criminal Shakeel's female friend for her alleged involvement in extortion cases. The arrested woman, Nashreen was held by a team of Dargha Bazaar police while returning from Choudwar jail after a meeting with Shakeel.

Cuttack DCP Akhileshvar Singh said the police are questioning Nashreen about her involvement in two extortion cases. She used to meet Shakeel in the jail and get the future planning details about criminal activities. Later she explained the plan to members of Shakeel’s gang to execute the crime.

“Nashreen used to coordinate and handle Shakeel’s network when he is lodged in jail,” Akhileshvar added.

While investigating a case registered at Buxi Bazaar police station, the cops came to know miscreants got a gun, that they brandished at a shop to extort Rs 10 lakh, from a woman. After committing the crime, they deposited the gun with the woman. In connection with this case, the police have arrested Nashreen, the Cuttack DCP stated.

The woman will be produced before a court soon, he informed.
