Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today issued a formal notification according university status to DRIEMS Group of Institutions in the state.
The state Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had approved a proposal for granting university status to DRIEMS in May last year.
The Odisha Assembly had passed DRIEMS University, Odisha Act 2022 in July last year, sources said.
The DRIEMS University will be a self-financing, multi-disciplinary, non-affiliating unitary university and will not demand any financial grant or assistance from the State government, the Technical Education Minister had informed the Assembly.
“In pursuance to sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the DRIEMS University, Odisha Act, 2022 (Odisha Act 06 of 2023), the state government do hereby establish a university to be known as the DRIEMS University, Odisha, Cuttack for the purpose of the said Act with effect from 15th November, 2023,” said the notification issued by the Skill Development and Technical Education department today.
University status to DRIEMS will enable the authorities to provide better quality education in engineering, management, health sciences and other fields, said an official.
DRIEMS chief Pramod Chandra Rath, meanwhile, thanked the Governor, Chief Minister and Technical Education Minister for according university status to the group of institutions.
