Odisha: Driver dead as speeding truck rams into stationary pickup van in State Capital

Bhubaneswar: In a freak road mishap, a driver was killed on the spot and another sustained grievous injuries after a speeding truck hit a stationary pickup van from behind on Vani Vihar over-bridge in Bhubaneswar, today evening.

Identity of the deceased pickup van driver has not been ascertained yet, a local policeman said.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of a polythene sheet-laden pickup van (bearing registration number OR-02 AJ-5923) had halted it on the over-bridge and the driver was carrying out some minor repairs, when the vehicle was on its way from Patrapada locality to elsewhere in the city and met with an accident. The driver of the truck (bearing registration number OD-22 W-2900) lost control of the vehicle and hit the other vehicle leading to an untimely death, the eyewitness added.

On being informed, Sahid Nagar police reached the spot and regulated vehicular movement on the over-bridge. Police have sent the injured to a hospital for treatment and initiated a probe.
