Odisha: ED to probe cheating cases involving ‘polygamist’ Ramesh Swain

Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will look into the financial aspects involved in the cheating cases committed by conman Ramesh Swain of Kendrapara district in Odisha.

Swain had grabbed the headlines across the country for allegedly marrying 27 women by impersonating a senior official at Union Health Ministry.

The ED has registered a case in this regard and sought information on all cheating cases registered against Swain by the Commissionerate Police.

Swain allegedly had duped some MBBS students of Rs 2 crore by promising jobs. He had also availed loans from some commercial banks by submitting forged documents. Besides, he had cheated huge sums from his 27 wives, sources said.

According to police, Swain, who had not finished his school education, has married many educated and well-established women including lawyers, doctors and university teachers. Even one of the cheated women is an administrative officer in Kerala and another is a senior officer in Indo-Tibetan Border Force (ITBP), police said.

Swain (66) had been arrested by Odisha police in connection with a cheating case last year. The Commissionerate Police had formed a special team comprising officials from Mahila Police, Cyber Cell and Anti-Fraud Cell to probe the case.
