Odisha: Elderly man goes missing after being dragged by crocodile into Brahmani river

Kendrapara: An elderly man was dragged today by a crocodile into Brahmani River while he was taking a bath in the water body near Ghagaradiha village under Pattamundai police limits in Kendrapara.

The missing man has been identified as Gangadhar Tarai who hails from the Ghagaradiha village.

“Locals present nearby could notice this and took prompt action. However, despite a frantic search for quite long hours, the elderly man has not yet been traced out and is missing,” some villagers said.

Police and fire services personnel were later informed about the mishap and a team reached the spot and launched a search operation. Locals are incensed over repeated incidents of crocodile attacks.

“This is for the third time in a month that crocodiles have attacked local residents in Kendrapara. A woman earlier was killed by a crocodile in a pond in Hatiagadi village under Rajnagar block of the district. A minor boy from Nimpur village under Pattamundai police limits was also dragged into Brahmani river few days ago when he had gone with his mother for a bath,” the locals rued.
