Odisha: Elderly man killed in elephant attack while returning home in auto-rickshaw

Sundargarh: In a tragic incident, an elderly man was killed in elephant attack while he was returning to home in an auto-rickshaw at Gutitangar village under Nuagaon block in Odisha’s Sundargarh district yesterday night.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Masood Alam (60), a resident of Asiana Colony under Bisra block in Rourkela.

According to reports, the incident took place when Masood was returning with three other passengers in an auto-rickshaw from a local market. While their auto-rickshaw was crossing through a forest, a wild elephant came on the road.

After the auto-rickshaw driver found the elephant on the road, all started running out of the vehicle. However, Masood failed to escape from the wild animal.

The jumbo trampled him to death near a farmland.

Tension ran high at the locality following the incident. The forest department officials and Hatibari police reached the site and initiated probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, a similar kind of incident was reported in the district where a youth was killed in jumbo attack last night. He was targeted while driving away a herd of elephants that strayed into Sialjor village under Kutra police limits.
