Odisha: Elderly woman killed, 2 injured in elephant attack

Baripada: A 65-year-old woman was crushed to death by an elephant and two others suffered injuries at Palasamunduli village under Morada police limits in Mayurbhanj district today.

Sources said when Subhadra Rana was plucking flowers early this morning, the pachyderm came out of nowhere and trampled her to death.  Besides, Indrajit and Naitani of Tukapalasia village suffered injuries in the elephant attack. They were later admitted to hospital for treatment.

Locals said a herd of elephants has strayed into the human habitation and is wreaking havoc in villages under Morada, Betanati,  Rasagibindapur and Karanjia blocks for the last couple of days. Last Sunday, a villager of Rasagobindapur block died in elephant attack. They have also destroyed paddy crops in several areas in these blocks, said a villager.
