Bhubaneswar: Eminent labour union leader Ghanashyam Jena died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here today. He was 93.
He passed away a day after his wife Hemalata Jena died of a heart attack.
Ghanashyam Jena was a pioneer in the field of the Trade Union Movement in India. He was the founder of All India Food Corporation of India Workers Union, Founder president of Paradip Port & Dock Majdoor Union, All India Food & Allied Workers Union & All India Petroleum Products Handling & Carrier Employees Union.
He founded Ghanashyam Hemalata Institute of Technology and Management, a unique educational institution run by the Society funded by members of labour unions, located at Marine Drive in Puri district.
Jena was also the Founder Chairman of FCI Workers Co-op. Credit Society Ltd. and Ghanashyam Hemalata Vidyamandira Society.
