Odisha: Engineering student drowns in Kuakhai river, dies

Bhubaneswar:  In a tragic incident, an engineering student allegedly drowned while taking bath in Kuakhai River near Bankuala on the outskirts of the Odisha capital.

The deceased was identified Manindra Khatua (21), of Kendrapara district. He was a B.Tech final year student of a city-based private engineering college.

As per the available information, Manindra along with his five other friends had gone to take bath in the river this afternoon. Suddenly, Manindra slipped into the deep water and was swept away by the strong river currents. His friends tried to rescue him but failed and alerted some locals present at the spot.

On being informed, fire engines and an ODRAF team rushed to the spot and after minutes later the rescue team recovered the body from the deep water, locals said.

Manindra was rushed to a nearby hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead. His body was handed over to the family members after due formalities.
