Odisha ex-servicemen rue state apathy towards Central guidelines

The Indian Ex-Services League, Odisha branch, has expressed discontent over the non-implementation of Central guidelines by the state governments.

PRESS(1)Addressing the first annual convention of the League’s Odisha branch organized by the District League Gajapati at the Paralakhemundi Town Hall here on Saturday, general secretary, Indian Ex-Services League Odisha, POR (Spl) Bidyadhar Nayak alleged that the the policy letters and directives issued by the Central government to all state chief secretaries of the state are not addressed by statutory bodies like the Home department, district collectors, tahasildars and the corporate houses.

“If this is the state of mind of our government machinery, how will the security of our nation be safeguarded?” he asked.

Nayak urged the district collectors and the local MLAs to be concerned about the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families so that others will be encouraged to join military services.

Secretary of Air Force Association of Odisha Branch JWO Arun Mohanty urged the Gajapati district administration to allot a piece of land to the District League Gajapati for conducting their day to day social activities.

Brigadier Abhimanyu Raut said the transit house at 120 TA BN, Bhubaneswar and the Holiday Home at Puri have come up with the contribution of all ex-servicemen of Odisha. He shared his experience of welfare related policies and directives when he was handling it as a sub area commander for Jharkhand and Odisha.

In his address, the district collector Basudev Bahinipati assured ex=servicemen of a piece of land to the District League Gajapati and encouraged all ex-servicemen to fight against injustice and extend support to the administration.

Paralakhemundi MLA K Surya Rao also promised to grant MLALAD funds towards the construction of the District League office and take up all outstanding issues related to welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.

The convention was presided over by Hon Capt Malikarjuna Patnaik.

    Being the trained and experienced soldiers of the country, we should invite the attention of Government on the poor governance and its eradication by putting in valuable suggestions where our involvement is necessary. My point is, our value should be felt for nation building and progress rather than asking or pressing for welfare.

    It’s the politicians who have to understand the value of Faujis in nation building. As long as they treat Faujis as just Choukidars, the ex Faujis will continue suffer at the hands of district administration.
