Odisha extends love for Padman and its cause

Bhubaneswar: As the much-hyped Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte-starrer Padman hits screens today, theatres in Odisha are abuzz with fans of the Khiladi, celebrating the cause the actor has been campaigning for, for last couple of months.

While fans thronged theatres on Day 1 to see the film that has been the talk of the nation, the operators of Common Services Centers (CSC) scheme (a project under the Digital India Programme) distributed sanitary napkins outside cinema halls in Odisha.

Odisha Akkians, fans of Akshay Kumar, erected a huge cut-out of the Toilet actor, apart from cutting cakes to commemorate the premier show of the movie, directed by R. Balki.

A few Akkians even distributed free sanitary napkins outside Rukmini movie hall in Berhampur.

Akshay Kumar was quick to appreciate the efforts and the enthusiasm of his fans in Odisha via Twitter.

Bollywood celebrities are not the only ones busy in promotional events to raise awareness on menstrual hygiene. Odias on social media are also doing their bit and taking up the Padman challenge to discuss the otherwise-shushed issue of the monthly cycle of women, menstrual hygiene and sanitary pads.
