Odisha farmer electrocuted to death in farmland

Salepur: A farmer died after coming in contact with an 11 Kv wire at his farmland in Salepur area of Cuttack district today afternoon.

As per reports, the farmer, identified as Gagan Bihari Mallick of Purbabanahara village under Chikola panchayat had gone to his farmland to cut paddy crops. He beat the paddy crops with a stick as part of the agricultural activities. But accidentally the stick touched the 11 kv wire passing over his farmland. Mallick was injured grievously after the stick touched the high voltage wire.

He was rushed to the Salepur Community Health Centre and shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital after his condition deteriorated. Doctors at SCB hospital later declared him dead.

After the news of Mallick’s death spread, locals and the deceased’s family members blocked Cuttack-Chandbali road near Kulia bazaar demanding compensation.

Police reached the spot and assured the agitators to provide Rs 10,000 assistance from the Red Cross Fund. Following this, the roadblock was withdrawn.
