Bhubaneswar: A woman Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police died under mysterious circumstances in Odisha’s Rourkela city today.
The deceased has been identified as Alisa Narmi Lugun (30), an ASI of Udit Nagar police in the Steel City.
The woman ASI along with a few other police personnel rushed to the Ring Road area in Rourkela to restore the law and order in the wake of a group clash in the evening hours today.
Two groups reportedly clashed in the Ring Road area following a road mishap involving a passenger bus and a car in the locality.
The female ASI collapsed while she trying to bring the situation under control. She was immediately rushed to private hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival, sources said.
“Some people attacked the woman cop while she was trying to bring the situation under control. She collapsed and died subsequently,” said a relative of the deceased.
Someone hit the woman ASI on her chest while she was trying to pacify both the sides involved in the clash, claimed a source.
However, the police are yet to reveal the reason behind the woman ASI’s death.
“We are probing the incident. The deceased ASI’s body has been sent for postmortem,” said an official of Udit Nagar police.
Notably, Lugun was investigating the mysterious death of Rourkela Assistant Collector Sushmita Minz before the case was handed over to a DCP-rank officer a few days ago.
