Puri: Fire broke out at another market complex in the Holy City here today, a few hours after the Fire Brigade personnel doused the flames at Samrat Market Complex on the Grand Road through an arduous operation that lasted for almost 36 hours.
Smoke was seen billowing out from a handloom showroom at Niladri Market Comlex, a few metres away from Samrat Market Complex, at around 5 pm today, sources said.
On being informed, the Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot and contained the flames, sources added.
“The fire might have been caused by short-circuit at the handloom shop. Our personnel were able to douse the inferno within 15 minutes,” said a Fire Brigade official.
Notably, a major fire broke out at a garment shop on the first floor of Samrat Market Complex at Laxmi Bazar near Marichikot Square here at around 8.30 pm on Wednesday.
Soon the inferno spread to other shops and a bank located at the market complex, locals said.
As many as 160 Fire Brigade personnel, 12 fire engines and two teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) were pressed into service to douse the flames.
As many as 40 shops at Samrat Market Complex were gutted in the mishap, sources said.
