Odisha Fire Service employee dies by suicide, writes to PM before ending life

Bhanjanagar: An employee of Odisha Fire Service found hanging in a forest under Gangpur police limits in Ganjam district today.

The deceased person has been identified as Dayanadhi Mohanta, posted as Driver Havildar at Aska Fire Station.

He was found hanging from a tree in Budhakendu forest. Gangpur police and Bhanjanagar fire services personnel recovered his body.

Reportedly, a suicide note has been recovered from the deceased indicating that the employee took extreme step to end his life over officials’ apathy to grant his leaves.

Mohanta reportedly wrote the letter appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take care of his two children after his death.

According to reports, Mohanta was under stress in past two years after death of his parents and his wife left him and married her ex-beau as officials concern had not approved his leave applications despite repeated requests to the DG.

“As I was not able to give enough time to my family due to my senior officials’ apathy, my wife was engaged with another person namely Ranjan Kumar Mohanta. I had to get separated from her and her mother too supported her decision to marry her former boyfriend,” he wrote questioning the Modi Government that always bats for posting of a government employee at nearest branch of the concerned department.

“My parents passed away following prolong illness, my wife also left me. She did not allow me to meet my children and blocked my phone number on WhatsApp. Even as we perform our duties with utmost sincerity, we are not allowed to take leaves to spend time with family. If I were given leaves by my officials concerned, I would not have lost my parents and children. I was forced to take my final decision by ending my life,” Mohanta wrote before he hanged himself in the forest.
