Odisha: Five more gates of Hirakud dam to be closed today

Sambalpur: A day after closing 10 gates of Hirakud dam, five more sluice gates will be shut today, informed the reservoir authorities.

The floodwater is being released through 10 sluice gates. However, five gates will be closed to maintain water level at the dam.

Currently, the water level of the dam is 620.08 ft against storage capacity of 630 ft by 9.00 am on August 17. The average inflow of water recorded 1,13,362 cusec and 1,74,120 cusec water is being discharged from the reservoir, the Water Resources department informed.

Meanwhile, the water flow at Belgaon (Tel River) recorded 28,000 cusec, which is falling. The water flow was registered 73,206 cusec (steady) at Patharla (Tel River), 3,00,000 cusec (steady) at Khairmal (Mahanadi River), 4,24,000 cusec (falling) at Barmul (Mahanadi River). However, the water level is rising with 4,20,824 cusec water flow at Mundali (Mahanadi River) by 9.00 am on Saturday.
