Mundali/Cuttack, Aug 7:

People living downstream of Mundali Barrage in Odisha’s Cuttack district now have reasons to feel a bit relieved. The water inflow  in the Mahanadi river system through the barrage here has recorded a fall and now come down to 10.89 lakh cusec by 1 pm, officials  of the Mundali Barrage said today.

It was 11.23 lakh cusec till early morning.

Meanwhile, the Hirakud dam authorities closed 3 of the 50 open gates around 2.30 pm.

Similarly, at Naraj the water level in river Kathjodi has also started falling this afternoon. The present level  of 26.40 metres is  below the danger level of 26.41 metres. There are indications that this would fall further as the inflow is showing a receding trend since noon.
