Odisha floods: CM Naveen to conduct aerial survey today

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today will conduct an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in five districts to review stock of situation.

Accompanied by 5T Secretary VK Pandian, CM Patnaik is scheduled to take the aerial survey at 3.30 pm of five districts included Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara.

The floodwaters following incessant rain inundated many areas in five districts. The water level increased in many rivers including Mahanadi and Baitarani after low pressure-induced extreme rainfall events in a past few days.

The ODRAF, NDRF teams and fire services personnel have been pressed into action to rescue residents trapped in the floodwaters.

Sources said that many rivers are flowing below danger mark since yesterday.

Currently, the water level at Hirakud dam stood at 624.69 ft. While water inflow was 4,40,120 cusec and outflow stood at 6,74,868 cusec by 9 am today. The floodwaters are being released through 40 sluice gates of the reservoir. The water level at Mundali, Khairmal and Barmul was 10,10,525 cusec, 8,50,000 cusec and 8,88,000 respectively.

Sources said that the Hirakud dam authorities will take a decision on closure of sluice gates by evening.
