The Odisha government today constituted a six-member Fitment Committee for determining modalities for implementation of recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.

Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan has been appointed as the head of the Fitment Committee which has been directed to submit its report within four months, said a notification issued by the Finance department today.
Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, Finance Secretary Tuhin Kant Pandey, Forest and Environment Secretary Suresh Mohapatra, Special Secretaries in the department of Finance A K Meena and Aswini Mishra have been named members of the Committee, the notification further said.
The Fitment Committee apart from determining fitment of scales, ranks, allowances and pensions will also determine the burden and impact of the revision on the state government’s finances.
The state government’s move to implement the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission would benefit about 4 lakh employees and about 3 lakh pensioners.
Rough estimates have pegged the pay revision burden on the state government’s exchequer at about Rs 5,500 crore annually.
Notably, the state government, currently, spends about Rs 29,836 crore annually towards salaries and pensions.
It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced on Friday to implement recommendations of 7th Pay Commission for the state government employees.
