Bhubaneswar: Odisha girl Anindita Janhavi Suara from Koraput district made the state proud in field of literature by participating international poetry competition conducted online by the United Kingdom's tourism department.

Anindita is the only girl from India among 50 contestants to represent the country in international poetry competition.

Anindita, the Plus Two student of VD College in Jeypore, is all set to try her luck to gain applauds and recognition from popular poets for her poems written in English.

She had sent her poems to UK Tourism through social media platform for the international poetry competition. Clearing many phases, her poems were selected for final round.

She emerged as one of the top contestants on online voting. The lines are open for online voting for the favourite poems and budding poets till September 25.

"It was a worldwide participation. Over 20,000 had participated in the competition in which I am in the top 50. I wish to be in top 5 in the final round to make my country proud in UK Tourism department," said Anindita.

"My daughter had interest in writing since her childhood. She started writing poems when she was in class VI. After I found potential in her, I motivated her to continue writing poems. My daughter is in the leading position till now. But, she needs more votes online. I appeal my Jeypore, Odisha and country people to vote for Anindita online to bag the trophy, said Anindita's father Rabindra Kumar Suara.
