Odisha: Girl consumes poison in front of ex-boyfriend’s house; family alleges murder

Bhanjanagar: A girl today consumed poison in front of her ex-boyfriend’s house at Kshatriyabarapur village under Gangapur police limits in Ganjam district. She died while undergoing treatment at hospital. However, the deceased’s family alleged that she has been murdered by the male friend.

According to a source, the girl identified as Jyotirekha Sahu had gone to the house of her ex-boyfriend Shyamaghana Gouda in the morning. The duo had an altercation over an issue not known yet. Following which, the girl consumed poison and became critical leading to her untimely death.

Shyamaghana admitted the girl for treatment in critical condition and informed her family about it. Doctors treating the girl at the government-run health facility later declared her ‘dead’.

On the other hand, father of the deceased lodged an FIR with local police to probe into the death.

Acting on the FIR, police have launched a probe and sent the body to hospital for post-mortem.

Jyotirekha had a love affair with Shyamaghana for nearly past 15 years. Relationship between the couple became strained after Shyamaghana tied nuptial knots with another girl, a policeman said.
