Odisha girl gang-raped, runs naked on road to save life

Jajpur: Hours before the International Women’s Day, a college girl belonging to tribal community fell prey to ‘rapists’ in Odisha’s Jajpur district. And shockingly, a cook engaged in Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) under the Odisha police is allegedly involved in the incident.

However, police have arrested all the four accused in this connection.

Reportedly, the minor girl, a resident of Kalinga Nagar police station area  had gone to Brahmanipal with her male friend to collect scholarship money (Tata Steel Jyoti Fellowship). While returning, the two boarded a bus from Duburi to Kaliapani. After reaching at around 8 PM, the two were having food at a eatery in front of Tata Steel Main Gate and later walked around four km to Kalarangi village.

The four culprits, who were following the two,  waylaid them near the defunct OMC chromite mines. While two of them overpowered the girl’s friend, two others took her to an isolated  place. Santosh Prusty (31), a cook at OISF Kaliapani unit, took the first  turn to rape the girl followed  by the rest three. Meanwhile,  her friend approached a security guard of a private company for help, but to no avail.

Later, the culprits made a plan to take the victim to  a house at Malhara Sahi. Though she begged the miscreants to let her go, her cries fell on deaf ears only. Later, she managed to escape from their clutches leaving her mobile phone and vanity bag on the spot. She ran naked on the road to save her life from the criminals. She barged into the house of a woman Home Guard and requested her to let her stay. The Home Guard called up police to inform about the incident. A police team immediately reached the spot and rescued her.

On the direction of SP Rahul PR, police conducted raids throughout the night and arrested the four accused  under Sections   341, 363, 376 (D), 506/34  of IPC and Section 4 of POCSO Act.

On Monday, the four were produced before Jajpur SDJM Court and later sent to custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.  Besides, the victim was sent for a medical examination.
