Odisha girl sold for Rs 50,000 in Jhansi, rescued

Shame! A young girl from Odisha’s industrially developed Dhenkanal district was allegedly sold for Rs 50,000 in Jhansi by her relatives under the pretext of getting her married to a person there.

According to reports, the young girl who has managed to escape to Bhubaneswar by train from the clutches of her so-called in-laws of Jhansi, after being subjected to torture there, is currently in the custody of Childline after being rescued by Ruchika Helpline here.

The girl who alleges to have been married off to a person in a temple in Jhansi by her relatives, after ten days of her marriage, on being subjected to torture, came to know from her so-called in-laws that she was sold off by her relatives for Rs 50,000.

Ruchika Helpline has lodged a complaint with the Twin City Commissionerate police’s Anti-Trafficking Unit in this regard.

On the other hand, the girl who is unwilling to return home has demanded stringent action against the culprits, reports added.
