Odisha girl to vroom on Rajpath this R-Day!

Bhubaneswar: Here’s something to cheer about for all who were disheartened over the exclusion of Odisha’s tableau in the Republic Day parade this year. Riding one of the roaring bikes displaying daredevil acts will be Odia girl Mita Hansda.

A native of Dhenkanal, Mita has been picked in the 27-member BSF women ‘daredevils’, which will debut on Rajpath in New Delhi on January 26.

The all-women bikers’ squad was raised by the border guarding force last year, on the lines of their much-acclaimed male counterparts.

The young bikers are expected to draw cheer with stunts and acrobatics on 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles.

According to official sources, the members of this squad, ‘Seema Bhavani’, have been drawn from various combat ranks of the force and are aged between 25-30 years.

Speaking to media, Mita said she was initially frightened to do the stunts, but soon started enjoying them. She is excited about the debut.

Interestingly, some members of the squad didn’t know how to ride a bike till a few months ago.

Mita, however, warned youngsters against doing these stunts without proper supervision.
