Odisha girl wins gold in Commonwealth Chess Championship

New Delhi: Odisha girl Saina Salonika has once again brought laurels for the state as she has won gold medal at Commonwealth Chess Championship which concluded here today.

Women Fide Master Saina Salonika won the medal in the Under-14 Girl Category. She won five games and drew two games in the seven-round tournament and scored six points.

Jyostna L got the silver medal with 5.5 points whereas Jishitha D got bronze medal with five points in the same age category

Worth mentioning, Saina – a Class IX student of KIIT International School, Bhubaneswar – has won her third Commonwealth medal. Earlier, she had also won gold medal in Commonwealth Chess Championship in the U-10 Girl Category and silver in 2015 in the U-12 Girl Category. This is her 12th International medal which also includes the World Champion gold medal in the U-10 Girl Category in 2013.
