Bhubaneswar: In what could prove a major stride in medical science, the Odisha government has facilitated molecular tests in cancer by various health facilities in Bhubaneswar. The tests will be carried out through its NIDAN scheme by Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC),  SCB Medical College and other tertiary care centres on PPP mode in partnership with Bhubaneswar based In DNA Laboratory.

While samples will be collected from these institutions, tests will be performed in the laboratory in Bhubaneswar and reports submitted back to institutions concerned. The laboratory is selected through an open tender by Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL).

Molecular tests of tumours are advanced version of tests those can help to understand the tumour biology and plan the treatment more precisely for targeted therapies. While it is expensive and requires specialised laboratories and expertise, it is hoped that the facility will benefit cancer patients immensely.
The entire cost would be borne by the State government through NIDAN, a flagship scheme which aims to provide better and high standard health-related services  to citizens here. Under this scheme, all citizens will get free diagnostic services in public health facilities in Odisha state.
