Acting tough on absentee doctors in the state, the Odisha government today dismissed 408 doctors from their services for remaining incommunicado despite several reminders.

The state government dismissed the doctors on grounds of remaining absent from their places of posting for long periods without necessary permission/approval.

The Health department had initiated departmental proceedings against 412 doctors on the above grounds and had served notices through newspapers. Later four doctors had appealed against the government’s action.

Considering their appeals the state government terminated the services of 408 doctors out of the 412 served with notices.

The state government’s decision was earlier concurred by the Odisha Public Service Commission.
