Odisha Govt adds ‘Ethics and Values’ to UG courses

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has added Ethics and Values, a new subject, to Undergraduate (UG) programme for students.

Odisha State Higher Education Council has prepared a complete syllabus for introduction of the new subject to +3 courses. Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo unveiled first part of the syllabus during a programme here today.

“By the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the State Higher Education Department is going to introduce the new syllabus not only to make students successful in academics but also to build them as good human being,” said Minister Arun Sahoo during an event here today.

“The Department will set a milestone by introducing the syllabus with Ethics and Values as new subject to make Odisha as a welfare State,” he added.

The syllabus has been divided into 6 units and each semester will have one unit in three-year UG programme. Each unit carries 25 marks. There will be 15 periods in total for one unit, a release stated.

Here’s the content of the subject:

Unit 1: Women, Social Institutions and Practices

Unit 2: Values and Good Citizenship

Unit 3: Issues of Drugs and Tobacco Addiction etc.

Unit 4: Ethical Values for Life

Unit 5: Vulnerable Sections of Society-Understanding their issues

Unit 6: Environmental and Techno-ethics
