Odisha Govt announces Rs 1000 Cr for SCB Hospital

Bhubaneswar: The SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack will soon get a facelift as the Odisha Government today announced a package of Rs 1,000 crore to revamp the hospital. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made the announcement at a high-level meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan here today.

As part of the plan, the hospital will be upgraded as AIIMS Plus institution and the number of beds will be increased to 3,000. Besides, the Government has also decided to rope in medical professionals settled outside to provide high quality treatment to patients at the hospital.

The move is aimed at placing SCB among top three hospitals in the country. Currently, the hospital ranks 14 in the country.

On the occasion, the CM said, “  It is my dream that every person in Odisha should have access to high quality, affordable healthcare. From three Medical Colleges, we are in the process of having more than 10 medical colleges and .  SCB has a central place in our vision of providing high quality affordable healthcare.”

He added, “The revamp plan will involve a substantial cost to the people of the State- more than Rs 1000 crores, but it will result in a transformation where no person from Odisha will be forced to go outside the State for medical treatment.”
