Odisha govt asks Collectors to celebrate Reading Day, Reading Week online

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) asked District Collectors to celebrate Reading Day and Reading Week on June 19 and the week following the day respectively online in view of the situation emerged out of COVID-19.

In a letter, OSEPA’s State Project Director, Bhupendra S. Poonia directed District Collectors various activities such as reading pledge, storytelling, poetry recitation, quiz programme, folk art, drawing and painting may be organized through class wise WhatsApp groups created for ongoing “Odisha Shiksha Sanjog” digital education platform across the State.

The letter asked to fix a uniform time period of one hour preferably from 10.00 AM to 11.00 A.M for reading activity involving all students across each district to read literature, story books, children magazines, comics, etc.

The students may also be encouraged to participate in activities like poetry writing, drawing, painting, folk art, creative writing, essay writing, etc. Wherever possible online quiz session amongst peers, siblings, narration, word game and storytelling may be conducted to associate reading and writing with joyful learning, the letter stated.

“The selected documentation will be shared with OSEPA for documentation and sharing at State and National level. The COVID-19 guidelines must be followed while conducting the activities,” it said.

Worth mentioning, the NITI Aayog asked the State governments to celebrate the Reading Day and Reading week on June 19 and the week thereafter, respectively.
