Odisha govt asks Collectors to remain alert in view of possible heavy rain

Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Odisha, PK Jena today directed all District Collectors to remain alert in view of the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy rainfall due to a Deep Depression over Bay of Bengal.

In a letter, the SRC asked districts under orange and yellow warning to remain in readiness to meet any eventuality particularly water logging/ landslide in hilly areas

The districts were directed to keep continuous vigil of low lying areas and carry out dewatering wherever required including urban areas. Situation may be closely monitored and advice for fishermen must be strictly implemented, the letter read.

The IMD forecasted that wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast and West Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal till October 13.

Day 1 (valid up to 0830 hrs of 12.10.2020):
Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs of 12.10.2020 up to 0830 hrs of 13.10.2020):
Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Puri, Nayagarh, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Cuttack

Day 3: (valid from o83o hrs of 13.10.2020 up to o83o hrs of 14.10.2020): Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Rayagada and Ganjam

The meteorological department advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal till October 13, 2020.
