Odisha govt begins assessment of tech manpower requirement

The Employment and Technical Education & Training department of the Odisha government has sought details of technical manpower requirement till 2020 from various government departments for preparation of a ‘Perspective plan of Technical Education’ sought by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The commissioner-cum-secretary Employment and Technical Education & Training Chandrasekhar Kumar has written letters to commissioner-cum-secretaries of Industries, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Health and Family Welfare, Information Technology departments, CMD IDCO and director, Industries seeking detailed information on the requirement of technical manpower by their respective departments till 2020 at the earliest so as to prepare the perspective plan of technical education in the state as solicited by the AICTE.

“For preparation of the ‘Perspective plan of Technical Education’ as solicited for by the AICTE, the information on technical manpower requirement till 2020 in respect of your department/ organization is required at this end. I am, therefore, to request you to kindly furnish the information on technical manpower requirement till 2020 in the enclosed format to this department at the earliest,” Kumar said in his letter.

In a letter to state governments, AICTE had said that it has been receiving requests from some state governments regarding their apprehensions on establishment of new institutions and expansion of existing institutions in view of the large scale vacancies of seats in the existing institutions. In this backdrop, AICTE had sought a perspective plan for technical education indicating the requirement of technical manpower in the state based on a scientifically carried out study and inputs from the State Universities through Board of College and University Development (BUCD).

The AICTE letter to the state governments said the perspective plan should take into consideration the requirement of technical manpower for the industry, social requirements of access to technical education and other inputs.
