Odisha govt begins process to identify chit fund depositors at panchayat level

In a welcome move, the Odisha government has initiated process to identify duped depositors of Ponzi firm Rose Valley Group.

The Odisha government’s Finance department has directed District Collectors to identify genuine depositors of chit fund firm Rose Valley Group, sources said.

Three-member teams constituted by the state government will identify genuine depositors of Rose Valley Group on the basis of 14 parameters at the panchayat level, sources added.

Sources said the team will comprise of the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of the local police station, local Revenue Inspector (RI) and an employee of the Panchayati Raj department. The Panchayat Raj department employee will act as a witness in the process.

Camping at panchayat level, these teams will tally the list obtained from the Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry on chit fund with the list obtained from seized documents of Rose Valley Group.

Later, the team will submit a report to the Additional District Magistrate-cum- Nodal Officer appointed under the Odisha Protection of Interests of Depositors (OPID) Act.

“A three-member committee comprising of the local RI, ASI of the local police station and an employee of the Panchayati Raj institution will conduct field level verification to verify the genuineness of the depositor,” informed Finance Minister Pradip Amat while talking to reporters here today.
