Odisha govt establishes promotion court for its employees

Bhubaneswar: The State government has decided to set up promotion courts in order to expedite the promotion process of its eligible employees. As per a release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Additional Chief secretaries of different departments will chair the promotion courts of their respective departments.

Every year in the fourth week of January the promotion court will hear the cases related to promotion of Odisha government employees, the release said.

Worth mentioning, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed officials to ensure completion of the process for promotion of State government employees across categories by December 31 every year. Accordingly, 3,166 government staff were promoted by December 31, 2019.

The CMO release further said government employees who have not been promoted within this period can put for their issues before promotion courts.

Mostly State government employees knock the doors of different courts to get their issues related to promotion addressed. It is expected that with the setting up of promotion courts the employees will get justice at the earliest.

“It is expected that this transparent time-bound promotions will incentivise hardwork and inspire government employees to put their best, leading to better public service delivery which is the hallmark of 5T in governance,” the release added.
