Odisha govt extends help to cancer-afflicted girl who scored 80% in Class-X

Bhubaneswar: After the plight of a cancer-affected meritorious girl was reported in media, Odisha government today extended help to the teenager.

On direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the CDMO Dr Dulalsen Jagdev and BDO Narendra Kumar Khamari visited Monalisha Mandal’s house at Juari village under Kasafal panchayat in the district. Seeing her condition, the officials shifted her to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar in an ambulance arranged by the district administration.

While her free treatment has started, the Chief Minister has directed her expenses to be covered under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY).

The district administration also handed over an assistance of Rs 10000 from Red Cross Fund.

Worth mentioning, Monalisha is suffering from bone cancer in her right hand owing which she could not appear for the Class-X examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education (BSE) in 2019. She was diagnosed with the disease in 2018.

Despite excruciating pain, she wrote her papers with left hand this year and passed with 80 percent marks, much to the surprise for many.
