The School and Mass Education department have sought a report on the matter from the Block Education Officer (BEO), said an official.

Action will be taken against her after we receive the report, said Soudamini Das, deputy director (Elementary Education) School and Mass Education department.

“As per statutory provisions, anyone who is under custody for 24/48 hours will be automatically put under suspension. On expiry of 24 hours, we will seek a report from the concerned BEO. After the report is available to us we will instruct the BEO to suspend her with the approval of District Education Officer (DEO),” Das said.

Notably, Sarangi is the wife of chit fund scam accused and Seashore Group CMD Prashant Das and is working as a primary school teacher at the Government Primary School in Nayapalli.

Sarangi was arrested by the Laxmi Sagar police on the strength of a warrant issued by Panposh SDJM’s Court in Rourkela.

Sources said in 2013, a cheating case was registered against her at Raghunath Palli police station.
