Odisha govt introduces toll-free number for drinking water grievances

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has introduced a toll-free telephone number ‘1077’ in District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC) in the Collectorate of each district to receive drinking water related grievances from public and monitor the same for redressal.

Special Relief Commissioner and Disaster Management Secretary Bishnupada Sethi, in a letter to all collectors, said the state government has decided that all grievances related to drinking water supply in both rural and urban areas will be monitored on daily basis by the Department of Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water and Housing & Urban Department, respectively during the ensuing summer.

The collectors were asked to activate DEOCs of their districts with immediate effect to function 24×7 to receive grievances/complaints regarding drinking water supply, including repair of tube wells/pipe water supply systems and supply of drinking water through tanker.

Immediate steps should be taken to deploy suitable staff in rotation in the DEOC for recording of complaints in this regard from public and communicate the same to the block/ULB for redressal of grievances, said Sethi.

He further asked the collectors to check the toll-free number 1077 in the DEOC is operational and connected to a dedicated telephone set.

A list containing details of the grievances/complaints received from public till 2 pm along with remedial actions, if any, will be communicated to the collector, with a copy to Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water and Housing & Urban departments, through e-mail by 3 pm every day.
