Odisha govt not ready to open religious places in State

Cuttack: The Odisha government is not ready to open religious places in the State which have been shut for devotees since March as measure to contain the spread of deadly Covid-19.

In reply to a notice issued by the Orissa High Court, the State government stated as the ‘Garbha gruha’ (sanctum sanctorum) of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri is not having enough space, there are chances of spread of infection if the temple is allowed to open for devotees.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the HC seeking opening of religious places and places of worship in the State.

The HC posted the next hearing on the matter to next week.
