Odisha govt official jailed for second marriage

The JMFC Court in Odisha’s district headquarters town of Kendrapara today sentenced a Forest department official to three years in jail and slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 for deceitfully entering into second marriage with a girl by concealing information.

In addition to that the JMFC Court further ruled that in the event of non-realisation of the penalty amount Telkoi Forest Ranger Bijay Mallick has to undergo imprisonment of one more month.

According to case records Mallick who is currently serving as Ranger in Telkoi had married Tatini Jena of Balia-Bhagatpur village under Kendrapara block in 2006 after falling in love with her. At that time Mallick was Ranger in Kandhamal. However, he had concealed facts from Jena that he was a married person. Later, he also ditched Jena.

Jena had lodged a complaint at the Kendrapara Sadar Police station on this account.

The JMFC Court after examining witnesses and hearing arguments of both sides today convicted and sentenced Mallick under sections 493 and 420 of the IPC.
