Odisha Govt orders present OPSC member Sanat Mohanty to remain in charge as term of the Chairman ends

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today allowed present Member of Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Sanat Kumar Mohanty to remain in charge after the term of its Chairman came to an end.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1A) of the Article 316 of the Constitution of India, read with Regulation 3 of the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952, the Governor of Odisha has been pleased to allow Sri Sanat Kumar Mohanty, at present Member, Odisha Public Service Commission to remain in charge of the Chairman of the Commission with effect from 03.08.2023 until the appointment of Chairman, OPSC under the Clause (1) of Article 316 and enters office as such or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” a notification issued in this regard by General Administration and Public Grievance Department mentioned.

Worth mentioning, the tenure of the outgoing OPSC Chairman Satyajit Mohanty ended on August 2. “On attaining the age of 62 years, Mohanty shall cease to hold office as Chairman of OPSC with effect from August 2,” said an earlier notification of the Department.

The former IPS officer Mohanty was appointed as the OPSC Chairman in February 2021. He had taken voluntary retirement from Odisha Police to assume office as the OPSC Chairman.
