Odisha govt provides details of 23 fresh Omicron cases in State

Bhubaneswar: Director of State Health Services, Bijay Kumar Mohapatra informed 11 of the 23 infectees of Omicron variant who were detected today are foreign returnees. Mohapatra further said rest of the Omicron infectees are local cases and officials are examining their travel history.

He said out of the 23 new Omicron infectees, 19 are male and four female. The infectees are having mild symptoms and their condition is stable.

Mohapatra further detailed out on the new Omicron case and said seven are from Keonjhar district, four from Khordha district, three each from Sambalpur and Puri districts, two each from Boudh and Angul districts, one each from Balasore and Jagatsinghpur districts. They are aged in between 8 and 83 years, the Director of State Health Services stated.

Following genome sequencing of samples of the 23 persons at the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, it was found out that they are positive for Omicron variant.

So far, a total of 37 Omicron cases have been detected in Odisha.

The first case of Omicron was detected in Odisha on December 21.
