Odisha govt revises wages of labourers working in different sectors

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today hiked the wages of unskilled, semi skilled, skilled and highly skilled labourers working in 89 scheduled employments.

The State’s Labour Commissioner N. Thirumala Naik notified to pay Rs 5.40 variable dearness allowance per day to the labourers in different categories in addition to the minimum rate of wages.

During its 52nd meeting, the State Advisory Board advised to adopt a system of revision of variable dearness allowances at Rs 0.90 per point rise in the consumer price index number for industrial workers. The revised wages are announced at half yearly interval on April 1 and October 1.

The variable dearness allowance at Rs 0.90 paisa per point rise in All India Consumer Price Index number (base 2001-100) is effective from April 1, 2020 for the points rose during the preceding six months from October 2019 to March 2020.

The unskilled workers will get revised wages at Rs 303.40 and semi skilled at Rs 343.40 whereas skilled labourers will be paid revised wages of Rs 393.40 and highly skilled Rs 453.40, the notification added.
