Bhubaneswar, Jun 16:

The Odisha government, which had banned the sale of Maggi noodles in the state and asked the Nestle India to withdraw the remaining stock, has collected samples of noodles brands of other companies from the market and sent them for testing to state health laboratory.

However, the reports of the Maggi noodles samples sent to the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) certified Central Food Laboratory in Pune,  is delayed.

As per a letter written by FSSAI authorities to the state government, it might take another week to submit the sample test reports of Maggi noodles as the certified labs have received similar sample testing requests from most of the states.

Apart from imposing ban on the sale of Maggi noodles, the state government has kept a close watch on the standard specification of other Maggi noodles products like macaroni and pasta of other companies set by the Health department.

“We had recently raided several shops in Old Station Bazaar, Mancheswar and the Airport areas to collect the samples of the noodles of other companies. We are also keeping an eye on the noodles and pasta being sold in different shopping malls in the city. Even though Big Bazaar has taken Maggi off its shelves, some of the malls have replaced Maggi with noodles from other brands. We have collected samples from those brands as well,” informed AK Chatterjee, Food Inspector, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
