Odisha Govt suspends BDO, 2 Sarpanches: Minister  

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has suspended a Block Development Officer (BDO) and two Sarpanches on different grounds, informed Panchayati Raj Minister Pratap Jena here today.

Speaking to mediapersons, Jena said  the Government suspended Harabhanga BDO of Boudh district Rabindra Satpathy. Besides, Sarpanch Abhimanyu Jena of Kedarpur Gram Panchayat under Soro block in Balasore district and Sarpanch Ushanta Sahu of Ankorada Gram Panchayat under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district have also been suspended under the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik .

Citing reasons behind the suspension, the Minister said Satpathy has been suspended for not obeying guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) issued by the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department and for adopting unfair practice. Similarly, Sarpanch Ushanta Sahu was placed under suspension on charges of possession of disproportionate assets while Sarpanch Abhimanyu was suspended for embezzling Government funds.

Harbhanga block staff have threatened cease-work strike from tomorrow if the suspension order of the BDO is not withdrawn immediately.
