The suspension order was issued by the Panchayati Raj department on the direction of the chief secretary.

The Panchayati Raj department has served a show-cause notice to the suspended sarpanch Suresh Chandra Barik to reply in 15 days.

Earlier in the day, a delegation of the Odisha Administrative Service Officers Association (OASOA) met chief secretary GC Pati and submitted to him a memorandum addressed to the chief minister demanding immediate action against the sarpanch with a warning that all members of the Association would wear black badge in the state if the government fails to take action against the accused in the next 72 hours.

It may be mentioned that the BDO of Banpur, Syed Arif Hussain was assaulted by Barik on June 29.

Following the incident, the Association had lodged a complaint with the Banpur police station and apprised the Khordha SP and Director General of Police (DGP).

Since there was no action taken by the police, the Association later decided to take up the matter with the chief minister at the executive meeting on Sunday.
