Odisha govt takes over 12 acres of land owned by ponzi firms

12 acres of land in Odisha’s Ganjam district, owned by two chit fund companies, have now come under the possession of the state government, reports said today.

The action was taken under the Orissa Protection of Interest of Depositors Act -2011 and following the direction of the additional district magistrate (ADM), Cuttack, the tehsildar of Chhatrapur told reporters.

Of this, over 8 acres of land belonged to one chit fund company at Sindurapali while over 4 acres of land- 2.2 acres at Gadagadapalli and 1.9 acres at Govindapur in the same tehsil- were owned by another chit fund group.

The ADM Cuttack had directed the tehsildar, Chhatrapur to take possession of over 46-acres of land belonging to three ponzi firms.

These lands have been identified and the process of acquisition has begun, the tehsildar said.

These lands, which are yet to be taken under possession, belong to two ponzi firms. Of this nearly 11 acres of land at Sindurapalli and over 22 acres at Laxmipur belongs to one firm while another patch of 2.1 acres belonging to another ponzi firm is located at Kanabana.

The tehsildar said notices have already been issued to local people and concerned panchayat not to buy or sell these lands which are in the process of being attached.
