Odisha govt upgrades Madhusudan Law College to varsity

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today notified the establishment of Madhusudan Law University in Cuttack. In a notification, the Higher Education department said in exercise of the powers conferred by the Odisha Universities Act, 1989, the State Government alter the territorial jurisdiction of all the existing Universities of the State and establish a new university called the Madhusudan Law University at Cuttack by upgrading Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack with effect from June 1, 2020.

All the existing Government and Private Law Colleges except constituent Law Colleges of different Universities of the State shall be affiliated to the new university.

Madhusudan Law College established in 1869 with a diploma course has been offering at present undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and integrated BA LLB course.

In 2018, CM Naveen Patnaik had said that the State government is planning to upgrade the law college into a university.
