As per available information, 71,157 seats have fallen vacant in several private Plus Two colleges in the state.

According to reports, less than 10 students have taken admission in 144 Plus Two colleges this year which include three Arts colleges, 91 Science colleges and 50 Commerce colleges.

What is more shocking is that not a single student has taken admission in 12 Commerce colleges, 29 Science colleges and two Arts colleges in the current session.

The Higher Education department has issued show cause notices to these colleges to explain the reason for such dismal turnout in admission, a senior official of the department said.

The official also informed that the department has decided to review the number of admission taken place in these colleges in the last three years.

“If these colleges are found to have admitted less than 20 students in the last three years, their affiliation would be withdrawn. The department would come up with a notification to this effect very soon”, he added.
